Bay State Bank is pleased to announce the promotion of Kevin J. Hussey to Senior Vice President of Credit and Risk Administration. Kevin, who was already a valued member of the Bay State Bank team, assumes this expanded leadership role following the retirement of longtime credit executive Joyce Shand. Kevin brings more than 35 years of financial services and commercial credit experience to the position, with deep expertise in underwriting, risk management, portfolio administration, and commercial lending strategy. Since joining Bay State Bank, he has played a critical role in strengthening the Bank’s credit culture and supporting the continued growth of its commercial banking division.
In his new role, Kevin will oversee the Bank’s credit and risk administration functions, including management of the commercial portfolio and ongoing portfolio risk oversight. He was also responsible for underwriting $35 million in new commercial loans in 2025, helping support businesses across Central Massachusetts while maintaining disciplined credit standards.
“Kevin has been an exceptional addition to our commercial banking team, and this promotion reflects both his leadership and the confidence we have in his ability to guide our credit and risk functions,” said Anthony J. Pasquale, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Banking Officer. “He brings a rare combination of technical credit expertise, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach that is invaluable to our lenders and our customers. Kevin’s work overseeing our commercial portfolio and supporting the underwriting of new opportunities has been instrumental in helping us grow responsibly while maintaining strong risk discipline.”Before joining Bay State Bank, Kevin served as the Vice President, Portfolio Manager/Credit Specialist with TD Bank. During his tenure, he underwrote loans for businesses across the Worcester market and later joined TD’s national underwriting team, supporting transactions from Maine to Florida. He also played an active role in training junior credit analysts and assisting relationship managers in structuring lending solutions that balanced customer needs with appropriate risk management.
Earlier in his career, Kevin held senior credit and finance positions with Sovereign Bank/Banco Santander, Hilco Appraisal Services, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Fresenius USA, and First National Bank of Boston. His background spans commercial banking, asset-based lending analysis, corporate finance, budgeting, operational analysis, and international treasury management.
Kevin is a graduate of Babson College, where he earned a double major in Finance/Investments and Economics and received academic distinction in Business Policy Formulation. He has also completed advanced credit training through the Risk Management Association (RMA) Loan Officer Training Seminar. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kevin has a distinguished record of community leadership and volunteer service. He served as Chairman of the Auburn Finance Committee for 20 years, helping guide the town's financial stewardship and long-term planning. He also serves as a Commissioner of the Elm Hill Water District, is a past Grand Knight of the Auburn Knights of Columbus, and has chaired charitable golf tournaments benefiting children with special needs. In addition, Kevin serves on the Board of the Massachusetts Association of Football Officials and volunteers with Junior Achievement of Massachusetts, helping inspire and educate the next generation.
Kevin’s promotion reflects Bay State Bank’s commitment to developing internal talent, maintaining strong credit leadership, and supporting the long-term financial strength of the Bank and the businesses it serves.
